PORT OF LOS ANGELES RELEASES INITIAL STUDY, NOTICE OF PREPARATION FOR HARBOR PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT CENTER

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – June 5, 2018 – The Port of Los Angeles has released an Initial Study/Notice of Preparation (IS/NOP) — the first step in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) process — for the proposed Harbor Performance Enhancement Center (HPEC) Project, located at 300 South Ferry Street and 750 Eldridge Street, on Terminal Island at the Port of Los Angeles.

The primary goal of the proposed project is to improve terminal efficiency and enhance container management at the San Pedro Bay Port Complex. Utilizing property formerly occupied by Los Angeles Export Terminal and Border Protection, the proposed project would create a peel-off yard to provide 24/7 access to container storage and other uses to improve the efficiency of cargo movement through container terminals at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Use of this space would streamline container moves and improve the flow of cargo, thereby reducing truck congestion and idle times at container terminal gates.

The IS/NOP is available for review on the Port of Los Angeles website at portoflosangeles.org. The IS/NOP is intended to solicit feedback, which helps to identify any potential environmental impacts and suggest possible alternatives for the project that can be incorporated into the EIR.

The Port will hold a public meeting to receive comments on the IS/NOP on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 3 p.m., at the Port of Los Angeles Administration Building, 425 S. Palos Verdes Street, in San Pedro. Simultaneous Spanish translation services will be provided.
