22nd Street Park

22nd Street Park

22nd Street Park is an 18-acre park on the site of a former tank farm in San Pedro across from 22nd Street Landing at the Port of Los Angeles. When it opened in 2010, it was the first new park built in greenspace-challenged San Pedro in years. The park offers walking and biking trails, shade trees, a bocce ball court, restrooms, ample parking and more than four-acres of flat grassy area for recreation — all with a water view. Bounded by 22nd Street, Crescent Avenue and Miner Street in San Pedro, 22nd Street Park has 500 trees, 1,700 shrubs and 4.5 acres of sod, and includes a sloped area near Crescent Avenue and 22nd Street, which had previously included native and non-native/invasive plants and a freshwater marsh. In addition, a pedestrian path was created from the elevated Crescent Avenue area down into the park flatlands to provide an up-close view of this native habitat. In addition to the native and drought-resistant plants, other environmental features of the park include use of recycled water for landscaping maintenance (“purple pipe”) and bioswales for stormwater management. You do not need a permit to hold a family event at 22nd Street Park; however, visitors are limited to one 10’x10’ tent per gathering. Jumpers and BBQs are prohibited. For more information, contact the Port's Waterfront and Commercial Real Estate Division at (310) 732-3860.

Banning's Landing Community Center

In 1996, the Port of Los Angeles built the distinctively designed, 10,000-square-foot Banning's Landing Community Center as a "window on the water." The building's unique structure is shaped like a ship. Nonprofit organization Friends of Banning's Landing operates the center, which is used to stimulate and support cultural activities. The facility is promoted as a regional resource for the expression and education of cultural traditions and community pride through sponsorship of the arts. Banning's Landing is located at the foot of Avalon Boulevard at 100 E. Water Street in Wilmington. For more information, call the Friends of Banning's Landing at (310) 847-7704.
