Speakers for Schools

We invite your group to learn more about the Port of Los Angeles. We speakers who can share information about the Port's rich history and provide a general overview of Port operations and programs.

A speaker presentation is a great opportunity for you and your students to gain a rare perspective of the Port of Los Angeles, the nation's leading container port and vital international gateway that contributes greatly to the economic well-being for the southland.  While maintaining its competitive position in the maritime industry, the Port of Los Angeles remains steadfast in its commitment to responsible, sustainable growth.

A speaker can be sent to career day events and classroom discussions in addition to group events.  Sample presentation topics include:

  • Port of Los Angeles 101
  • Port Development Projects
  • Economic Impacts
  • Career Day
  • Environmental Initiatives
  • Homeland Security
  • Port History

The Port relies on dedicated and professional employees, who volunteer their time from their office responsibilities to fulfill speaking requests.  to arrange for a presentation, please submit your request in writing 3-4 weeks in advance of your date.  you are welcome to fax the request form on this page.  if you choose to send a letter on school stationery, please include:

  • name of your school with complete address
  • preferred date/time (an alternate date and time is also very helpful)
  • number of students (this will help us provide sufficient handouts, etc.)
  • contact information including your name and cell phone number
  • one topic of interest
  • room number, address and any other pertinent directions such as cross streets and/or parking information (i.e. curb side parking only)

The Port will do its very best to accommodate your request, but fulfillment in not guaranteed.  Providing an alternate date/time is extremely helpful and increases your changes of a speaker during peak Spring season when career day speakers are in high demand.  a letter of confirmation will be mailed to the teacher to confirm the speaker's participation.

We look forward to sharing the marvels of America's Port with your students.  Forward your letter of interest or request form to Sheila Gonzales, Public Relations Division, via fax at (310) 547-4611, or by mail to Public Relations Division, 425 S. Palos Verdes Street, 5th Floor, San Pedro, CA  90731.  Please call Public Relations at (310) 732-0423 with any questions.
